nv energy, sticking it to us again

Cory got the following letter memo at work the other day:

NEVADA ENERGY IS PROPOSING A 17.5% RATE INCREASE IN POWER BILLS STARTING IN SEPTEMBER 2009. We, as consumers who are upset with this latest outrageous request need to make our voices heard! We need to email the PUC and Eric Witoski, the Consumer Advocate in the Attorney General's Office, and let them know how unhappy we are with this latest request. The email address for the Commissioners on the Public Utilities Commission is mquintero@puc.state.nv.us and Mr. Witoski's email is ewitoski@ag.nv.gov. You can also email Nevada Energy directly to voice your opposition, customerservice@nvenergy.com.

According to NV Energy's government filings, in 2006 the Chairman, President and CEO Walter Higgins made about $5.6 million. In 2007 he was given a 49% raise to $8.3 million. Michael Yackira, who was the Executive Vice President and CFO made $1.4 million in 2006 and when he was promoted to President in 2007, he was given a 141% raise to 3.5 million. Maybe they can afford the increase, but we can't!
